It’s the time of the year for travel, extended stays with family and friends, not to mention all the hustle and bustle of last minute shopping, events, parties and church programs. With so much going on and the possibility of inclement weather, it’s important to remember to pack your home and car chargers and to keep your cell phone battery in good shape, charged and ready. Keeping a fully charged cell phone while traveling is important for your comfort and safety.

Some of us are attached to our mobile phones 24/7, whether by lifestyle choice or through the workplace. Therefore, keeping our phone batteries in good shape is important and has become a daily necessity. However, most of us may not know how to maintain our battery. Here are a few tips to help you keep your phone battery performing well:

  • Develop the habit of plugging your phone in every night, especially when traveling.
  • Purchase a cordless cell-phone-charger. These battery powered chargers extend the life of your cell phone’s power supply.
  • While charging your phone, keep it on non- heat absorbent material like a wooden table or plastic shelf.
  • Use only a charger rated for your battery. Do not use batteries and chargers that are incompatible with your mobile device. Purchase manufacturer or carrier recommended products and accessories.
  • Do not let a loose battery come in contact with metal objects, such as coins, keys or jewelry. Metal objects can cross the electrical connections and cause an incident.
  • Do not place the phone or batteries in areas that may get very hot, such as on or near a cooking surface, cooking appliance, iron or radiator.
  • Do not let your mobile device or battery get wet. Even though the device will dry and appear to operate normally, the battery contacts or circuitry could slowly corrode and pose a safety hazard.

These days, our mobile phones are essential in our lives, whether for social, emergency, or    work-related purposes. With these tips, we hope that you will be able to consistently maintain your phone battery during the upcoming holiday season and beyond.
